Developing a Culture of Data

The Challenge

Create an implementation plan to transition EFAA into a new service model.

The Result

A team that builds programs with data (and a new results framework and measurement strategy to match).

A Change in Model Reinforced By a Change in Mind Set

Helping Emergency Family Assistance Association provide truly holistic services

Supporting families facing inequity isn’t just about delivering on immediate needs such as food, housing, or utility assistance—it’s also a matter of keeping families both together and moving forward. It’s about linking them with resources that built lasting stability and growth.

With that in mind, the Boulder Colorado-based Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFAA) turned to ResultsLab to guide the organization’s transition from an emergency services provider model, to one of delivering holistic family services.

The Right Research, Design, & Action

To drive effective change throughout the transition, we first guided EFAA through a comprehensive process to develop a new impact strategy and program model, followed by a measurement plan and toolkit detailing what to measure and how to measure it. Combined, these aspects of our coaching ensured the organization would be able to drive a high quality measurement practice forward.

As a next step, we facilitated a series of data use sessions aimed at empowering a core group of program staff to not only use data dashboards, but also to leverage insights to truly improve their programs.

“I didn’t think data could be so interesting and valuable!” was our favorite piece of participant feedback from the session.

Results

Since July 2018, EFAA’s holistic family services model has served over 2,700 individuals and the organization continues to identify new ways to improve its programs using data.

The model has been so successful in fact, that EFAA has asked our team for assistance in expanding its reach. We’re excited by the chance to help the organization in assessing service gaps for homeless populations in Boulder, and in shaping an action plan based on data to address the landscape.

“ResultsLab is technically rigorous and excellent at engaging all levels of staff. They deliver high-quality results,” explains CEO Julie Van Domelen
